One of the Most Stunning Rides in the Catskills
Climb into the high peaks of the Great Northern Catskills on this round-trip loop, where sweeping vistas unfold around every bend. The route delivers breathtaking views of the region’s landscape plus a drive-by glimpse of Kaaterskill Falls. Want a closer look? Turn off Route 23A onto Route 18 (North Lake Road), then right onto Laurel House Road. From there, a short ¼-mile hike leads to the Viewing Platform, with spectacular views of both the falls and Kaaterskill Clove.
Be sure to stop at the Five State Lookout on Route 23, where, on a clear day, you can see the White Mountains of New Hampshire, the Green Mountains of Vermont, the Berkshires of Massachusetts, the Helderbergs of New York, and the Connecticut Valley.
